THE ARK OF THE COVENANT

After the publication of PT 78 dealing with the discovery of the Ark of the Covenant in Jerusalem we have been inundated with enquiries, many of which we haven't been in a position to answer. But we have been able to satisfy the continual request for further copies, and from what we hear, these are being photocopied again and again, sometimes until visibility is considerably reduced! Such is the response from believers everywhere.

And again, we are glad to say that from all the many enquiries received so far, there has been only one contrary voice, and his position was merely a reflection of the opinion of others, rather than a reasoned reaction.

However, we have now been in touch with Mary Nell Wyatt, Ron's wife, and have been appalled to learn of the vicious attacks they have received from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in America. And we have seen about 20 pages of similar material posted on INTERNET, with a character-assassination issued by the Institute for Creation Research. Furthermore, this has now been taken up by the Creation Science Movement in England, and followed by another similar group.

It is therefore imperative that we issue our own statement at this time. My wife and I are in no position to know about the work of Ron Wyatt or Jonathan Gray first hand, but we have taken the information from their Videos and written records, and have witnessed the way they speak, and are convinced that they are TRUTHFUL, HONEST BELIEVERS, men of good will, whose motives have never been for self-aggrandisement, but to prove the worth of ancient Biblical records.

Those who have so bitterly opposed them are men of high standing and repute, men with second and third degrees, who cannot tolerate the fact that an AMATEUR can achieve such notable success. This smacks of professional jealousy, and does no credit at all to their witness as believers. If they had just stated their inability to believe Ron's findings, and left it at that, it would have been sufficient, but the wording of their statements is heavily loaded against Ron himself, whom they refer to as a charlatan, a liar, an egotist, and various other uncomplimentary epithets.

Ron Wyatt is a nurse anaesthetist by profession, working in hospital for half the year to earn money. Then he uses the rest of the year for archaeological research, mostly at his own expense. He has sold up almost everything to embark on this work, no longer having any real estate, or medical insurance (which is almost obligatory in the U.S.A.) He has worked tirelessly with his two sons, and been captured by terrorists in Turkey, and imprisoned by Arabs in Saudi Arabia. His health is not A.1, having received war injuries, but his determination to serve the Lord, and establish the truth of His written word is a life-long drive. He is a man of prayer, and devotion to the Lord, and has seen some remarkable, and miraculous answers to prayer over the years.

We are saying these things, not to embarrass Ron, but to put the record straight. Far too many people are gunning for him right now, and he needs a break. We are glad to be able to write about him in this way.

One further point needs to be made. This whole subject is fraught with numerous problems, not least of which is the position, politically, in Israel itself. We ask our readers to reflect for a moment what the position is. Ron has worked in conjunction with only a VERY FEW officials in the Departments of Archaeology in Jerusalem. He has promised not to divulge any more information because of the grave security risks. But numerous people are trying desperately to lever information from whatever source they can, and for many different reasons.

Some people are trying to discredit Ron, we believe, in order to stabilise the situation in Jerusalem. Others do so out of professional jealousy, as we said before. Yet others are concerned to establish the truth, because they are intent on building the new Temple in Jerusalem, and the Ark of the Covenant would be the most treasured artifact to engrace that Temple. There are people with very keen interests whose religious persuasions are either Jewish, Christian or Moslem, and the mixture is an explosive cocktail. From the Christian point of view, many people are so thrilled to hear about the discovery of the Ark, that all the surrounding implications are overlooked. This is the case with us, living in a country where no back-lash would occur. But in Israel the climate is quite different. That is why so much secrecy surrounds the find. Remember that it dates from January 6th 1982, and only very recently has Ron suggested letting out further information.

There have been vigorous requests for Ron to supply samples of the blood from off the Mercy Seat, so that it can be analysed. This cannot be acceded to, simply because the site is now sealed up, and no one is allowed to open it up. But Ron has said that WHEN permission is granted, he plans to ask two independent genetecists to take samples and have it analysed under strict supervision, so as to establish the truth of what he has already advertised to the world.

But coupled with all the intrigue from the human point of view, one needs to remember that this piece of furniture was designed by God Himself, and made under very strict control by the Levites in the Wilderness, and history has shown that some remarkable things have happened in connection with its presence. From what has already been said in PT 78, it is clear that God still OWNS the Ark, and still has a KEEN INTEREST in what happens to it.

One may ask why Ron Wyatt was allowed to be the first man to inspect the Ark. Many have asked this question, some of them from objectionable motives. But it is a crazy question. Why should anyone question the Lord's judgment? Did they of olden days treat the Virgin Mary in the same way?
